How to Get to Jammerbugten

Jammerbugten is a municipality in the North Jutlandic Island of Denmark. The name Jammerbugten means “bay of grief” or “bay of misery”. It is a reference to the many shipwrecks that have occurred in the area. The municipality covers an area of 347 km2 and has a population of 12,109 (1 January 2021).

The municipality is located in the north-western part of the island and is bordered to the north by the Skagerrak, to the west by the North Sea, to the south by the municipality of Hjørring, and to the east by the municipalities of Brønderslev and Frederikshavn. The main town and site of the municipal council is Aalborg.

The municipality is divided into nine administrative, statistical and tax districts. The largest is Aalborg with a population of 11,131.

Aalborg is the main town and seat of the municipality. It is located on the east coast of the island, in the bay of Aalborg, on the Limfjord. The town has a population of 108,884 (1 January 2021).
